Bluesfest 2015 is here. Tickets are still available for the world famous Byron Bay event held annually in Australia. Grab your tickets here.
To celebrate Bluesfest we have added 4 new conscious music spotlights to Soul Traveller Radio – Switchfoot, Blue King Brown, Trevor Hall and Playing For Change all playing at this years Bluesfest.
According to lead singer, Jon Foreman, the name “Switchfoot” comes from a surfing term. “We all love to surf and have been surfing all our lives so to us, the name made sense. To switch your feet means to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. It’s about change and movement, a different way of approaching life and music.”
Switchfoot have done just that, the bands intention was always to reach the greater community however the labels pigeonholed them towards the Christian music community. Now with a bigger sound and much more maturity, Switchfoot has a greater world wide appeal while still delivering messages of hope and understanding. Their recent addition to the Conscious Music Spotlight, Edge of the Earth continues the message by asking us to leave the past behind us and take up our dreams.
Blue King Brown
Australian reggae and roots band, Blue King Brown is back with an album that is uncompromising in it’s approach to issues of social justice. With a heavy focus on freedom, the band understands their role to deliver a message through their music.
Lead Singer Natalie Rize said “We are getting more truth these days. We have always been aware that something isn’t quite right in the system but we are starting to pinpoint what they are and we strive for the things we can have a positive impact on in this world.”
Our Conscious Music Spotlight is The Righteous Ones featuring Jesse Royal, a song about the Unification of people on the planet and how we can attack the system (Babylon) with our words like Fire.
After taking himself of the grid and producing an incredible heartfelt album, Chapter of the Forest last year, Trevor Hall is back with a new EP to be released at the end of March.
Unpack Your Memories, a five song collection which includes some of Trevor Hall’s most personal tracks that have, until now remain in his “vault”. Like the title suggests it is time to take his songs from his memory and show them to the world…
If you as excited about this release as we are you can preorder the new EP here.
Playing For Change
In 2005, Mark Johnson was walking in Santa Monica, California, when he heard the voice of Roger Ridley (now deceased) singing “Stand By Me.” Roger had so much soul and conviction in his voice, and Mark approached him about performing “Stand By Me” as a Song Around The World. Roger agreed, and when Mark returned with recording equipment and cameras he asked Roger, “With a voice like yours, why are you singing on the streets?” Roger replied, “Man I’m in the Joy business, I come out to be with the people.” Ever since that day, the Playing For Change crew has traveled the world recording and filming musicians, creating Songs Around The World, and building a global family.
With 3 albums and a host of performances, everyone from buskers to Bono, Playing For Change is on the forefront of change in the world. Playing for Change is the new Conscious Music Spotlight with their remake of the Bob Marley classic, Get Up Stand Up.
