So who is Ages and Ages? They caught our attention when public radio in the US said that their music could change your life. We couldn’t agree more. The new record deals with the idea of letting go and starting over and the struggles associated with living honestly in such a superficial landscape. Their music and in particular their latest song, ‘As It Is’ could have been lifted from the George Harrison songbook of life.

“All my friends, everything here’s gonna change
and I have no attachment at all
I only wanna see it as it is.
I know, even my pulse it’ll pass.
None of this is gonna last.
I treat it like it ain’t even mine
so don’t i ever need to react.”

It is when they hit the chorus that you realise the impact of what is really being said is something the band from Portland, Oregon truely believes with absolute conviction.

“All as it is
See it rise
Let it pass
You’re gonna find your peace in anonymity.”

Tim Perry of Ages and Ages said “I wrote ‘As it Is’ alone in my car while waiting for help after I’d hit a patch of ice and ended up in a snow bank in the Wallowa Mountains.” I love what he says next… “It’s about surrendering control and finding peace on your own terms.”

How many times have we been in circumstances where we feel everything is out of our control and yet we cling on with dear life, hoping to change them? Earlier this year I found myself in a situation that I had zero control over and it wasn’t until I let go and surrendered that change began to occur.

If we continue to resist change and cling on to our current set of circumstances, in the end the only thing that wins is our own ego. There is truth in the old saying, ‘Let Go and Let God.’ It is the only way that change will come. But why strive for anonymity? Because “anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.” (Huffington Post – fantastic article)

As we roll into 2017, my mantra is to be a catalyst for change and the only way this can happen is to adopt the chorus that Ages and Ages is singing. Let everything be as it is, see your spirit rise up and let your problems of 2016 pass. Allow your awareness and principles of Spirit to be your guiding force this year. Give into the path of pure love and not constantly staring into the reflection of our own egos. Change will come and you will find your peace in the anonymity.

Check out the video and sing along…you will find yourself humming this one into the new year.
